Introduction to Holland Lop Bunnies

Holland lop bunnies are considered one of the world’s smallest bunnies due to their small size and lightweight. They are from the dwarf bunny category with short bodies. However, they are quite fluffy.

Holland lop bunnies don’t weigh more than 4 lbs even when at full maturity. They have lopped ears giving them an even cuter look. Due to their size and adorable stature, Holland lop bunnies are extremely popular as pets in the US and UK.

Another note-worthy characteristic of Holland lop bunnies is their distinctive color and pattern. They come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Some of these patterns include agouti, shaded, pointed white, wide band, ticked, tan, self, and broken.

The breed came into existence from two original breeds namely Netherland dwarfs and French lops. The breeding took place in Holland because of which this breed is called Holland lops. ARBA recognized it as a breed in 1980.

Even though Holland lops have a small size, they are quite strong and sturdy. However, they require special care.

Habits

Holland lops are friendly but thrive best in a calm household. They love to have their owner’s attention and be petted by them.

Holland lop bunnies are energetic and love to play with different pet toys. Cat toys are quite good for Holland lop bunnies. They love to run around so caging them at all times isn’t a suitable idea for a healthy Holland lop.

Despite their energetic nature, they also love to stay in your lap and enjoy some quiet time. They might take some time to get friendly when they are new at your place. So, give the rabbits the personal space they need, and don’t forget to get a personal enclosure for the bunnies.

Diet

As Holland lop bunnies are small in size, their food should be small too. Fresh vegetables, pellets, and hay are pretty much what this breed requires.

The diet of Holland lop is similar to any other rabbit breed. The only difference is that they require a smaller diet. However, bunnies with a higher activity level may eat more than usual Holland lops.

Access to fresh water at all times is important for Holland lops. They are playful bunnies and spend a lot of time running, exercising, and exploring. So, drinking water makes them feel refreshed.
